So Joseph said to his brothers, "Come near to me, please." And they came near. And he said, "I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here, but God. <image:caption>Now the chief priests and the whole council were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. For many bore false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree. And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, "We heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.'" Yet even about this their testimony did not agree.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you." But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively (Jude 1:6-10).</image:caption>

Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We will go with you." They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, "Children, do you have any fish?" They answered him, "No." He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea (Jn 21:2-7).</image:caption>

      <image:caption>THE CALL books describe and define the call from God to His people to find their destiny in Him and to participate in His will for their lives. Written as training manuals, THE CALL books have been used to train urban ministers for many years - most of them in yearlong Ministry Residency programs. THE CALL books describe and focus on sustainable, deep, long term discipleship. The books use stories, examples, and principles to describe models for leaders to engage with impact, insight, and fruitfulness.</image:caption>

      <image:title>DOD KNOWS - DOD KNOWS (THE JIMMY BOOK)</image:title>
      <image:caption>DOD KNOWS tells the story of Jimmy Stuckey, an unruly five year old boy with Down’s Syndrome, who was taken into the Martin home because no one else wanted him. What started as temporary foster care for a few days turned into fifty years of fun, laughter, and unpredictability.</image:caption>

      <image:title>DOD KNOWS - Weddings.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Jimmy loved weddings, and he made them interesting…real interesting. Here, following the best family traditions, Jimmy has been planted in the “getaway car” of the bride and groom. He seems pretty happy about it, doesn’t he? (Chapter 14).</image:caption>

      <image:title>DOD KNOWS - Football.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Now we are down to basics with Jimmy. He loved football. Here we see the author as a young boy with his Uncle Jimmy. Playing football with Jimmy was a dicey proposition - especially for a young boy. Jimmy was extremely competitive and he really didn’t have much regard for the rules. Every person who has played football with Jimmy remembers it. (Chapter 2).</image:caption>

      <image:title>DOD KNOWS - Cameras.</image:title>
      <image:caption>This guy loved cameras - cameras and cassette tape players. And he took great pictures! Which always baffled the rest of us because he kept both eyes open the whole time he counted and clicked. Jimmy was an amazing person whose personality and strength of will influenced every person around him. (Chapter 10).</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:title>DOD KNOWS - After breakfast, Grandaddy turned and focused on Jimmy. With a tone of intentional certainty, he said, “Jimmy is more valuable to us than anything in the world.” I looked at Jimmy. Jimmy just sat there. Now Jimmy was a talker. He didn’t just listen and respond. Jimmy initiated conversation. Conversation confirmed relationship and Jimmy was a relational person. He didn’t miss many opportunities to talk. But on this occasion, Jimmy didn’t respond. As I looked into Jimmy’s eyes though, I could see that he felt the full impact of that statement. He did not have the look of a man that had just been flattered - although a compliment was clearly intended. Jimmy had the look of a man that was accepted - a person who fully belonged. Jimmy realized exactly what was being said. Grandaddy continued, “We wouldn’t trade Jimmy for all the money in the world.” Jimmy sat there and never said a word. He didn’t need to say anything. He knew where he stood.</image:title>

      <image:title>DOD KNOWS - Buddies.</image:title>
      <image:caption>Jimmy was my buddy and that never changed as we grew older. Do note the perspiration that has matted our hair. We have finished what was no doubt a spirited game of football at the annual Thanksgiving family reunion (“big Turkey day”). Jimmy was my buddy - “weal ol’ buddy” (real old buddy) as he would say. “Ol’ ball head, culey bird, kickapoo, warfwop.” (Chapter 22).</image:caption>

      <image:title>LIFE TAPESTRY - WRITING YOUR LIFE STORY</image:title>
      <image:caption>Writing your Life Tapestry (also called a Spiritual Life History) can be a meaningful and informative experience. In our ministry training Residency, we ask all residents to write a Life Tapestry! A Life Tapestry can give you a new perspective on impactful events in your story. It can reveal patterns in your life that you did not know existed. Your life story can give you insight about purpose and direction for your life. Perhaps most importantly, you will see ways in which God has worked in your life! Below are two approaches to your life story: LIFE TAPESTRY - PROSE and LIFE STORY - CHARTED followed by SUGGESTIONS for both. Select the approach that is suited to you and dive in!</image:caption>
